Chair Yoga workshop & Sydney gathering
With International Dru tutor Astoria Barr and Dru Senior Tutor Julie Beynon
This unique workshop combines a chair yoga seminar with a networking gathering for Sydney siders
Not everyone can do yoga but nearly everyone can do yoga if its modified. Dru is a pioneer in accessible yoga through its modifications and chair yoga takes that a step further by offering yoga to those who need the support of a chair to exercise.
Chair yoga can be for people who are wheel chair bound, the elderly who need extra support or for people who are injured that can't do various standing movements. But actually, chair yoga can be fun and enjoyed by anyone and can also give some variety to an ordinary yoga class.
In this workshop/masterclass you will learn how:
- you can use a chair as prop for supported yoga
- to do yoga postures and sequences from a chair
- the importance of how yoga can be used to boost confidence in those who are not so able
The techniques taught on this workshop have been learned from direct experience. Astoria has had her own empowering journey with chair yoga after a severe car accident has left her with multi-joint injuries and chronic pain. What she discovered was that all yoga can be modified so that you can experience its therapeutic effects regardless of your physical state.
This is a post graduate masterclass. If you're a graduate, this masterclass qualifies as your continuing professional development. You receive 2 CPD points (Teaching Skills or Connect) for attending.
Sydney team gathering
In the final hour Astoria and Julie will facilitate a gathering where we will have time to connect together and discuss our ways forward as the Dru Sydney community over a shared afternoon tea from 3.30 - 4.30pm. Please bring a healthy plate to share.
