Adapting every class to include all my students whatever their ability is a challenge I rise to.

In the Summer I offer regular evening classes on the beach and mornings on an open yoga terrace. Also private one to one sessions at villas or hotel accommodations (by the pool or on the balcony).

Dru Yoga is rooted in classical yoga and each class has an Energy Block Release Sequence, which has been proven to release physical, emotional and mental stress. Classical strengthening and stretching postures are included. There is always a beautiful relaxation at the end too, so bring a blanket if you can! I am a Dru Kids and Teens Teacher too and teach yoga in a local school. I am always happy to bring Yoga for children/teenagers/young adults into schools, youth clubs or wherever needed. I trained in Iyengar Yoga, previous to Dru Yoga. I have developed my own style of teaching from all my different teachers. Hatha and Dru Yoga are the main styles I have practised and my yoga is a mix of these two.

What I find works for me is what I teach. I try to be authentic in that I teach directly from my own experience. My language is invitational; we go on a journey together in each class. I don't often 'adjust' students, preferring to just give verbal instructions about alignment so that each one of us in the room finds our own Asana (comfortable seat).

In every class we work with moving the body in time with the breath, so our yoga practice becomes a moving meditation. I always include a 15 minute relaxation at the end of every class and often a short seated meditation.

Dru is a slow moving gentle form of yoga which concentrates on maintaining flexibility of the spine. All ages can use this form of yoga to maintain health and flexibility and it is often used as a tool for people recovering from a back injury.

This style of yoga works with postures, breath work, relaxation and meditation. Its series or sequences are called Energy Block Release.

I was introduced to DRU yoga in 2000 and in 2008 began the DRU Yoga Teacher Training course purely for personal development reasons. I started teaching in 2008 and have never stopped. I teach on a one to one basis in my clinic ~ Paradise Clinic in Kemnay, Aberdeenshire. I teach once a week in Kemnay at Kemnay Church Centre at 8pm on a Monday evening. Classes are small and some of the students have been with me for many years. There is always room for new people to join us as we are a friendly bunch! No matter what your level you can find what you need in a DRU yoga class and I particularly specialise in working with people who need to find ways to reduce stress or have health issues and sore backs and necks etc. I have developed CBY ~ Chair Based Yoga for people who cannot easily get onto the floor or need to sit and do yoga, this is through my own personal experience of DRU and other yoga that I have practiced over the past 35 years. CBY is easily integrated into the DRU Yoga class so you always feel included and can experience the full power of YOGA using the breath to link the mind and body. I first became interested in Dru yoga to enhance my skills as a massage therapist. As a therapist I really get to see first hand the effect of stress and many other life experiences has on the body. If you would like to attend my zoom classes they are Saturday at 8:30am and Monday at 5:30pm. Both classes are 75 minutes. From 12th April there will be an extra class on Monday at 1:30pm.
I offer modified postures where necessary so that everyone can be included and work at their own pace. Relaxation is a favourite of everyone so you leave the class feeling calm, renewed and energised.

My Dru yoga classes are 70 min duration. They consist of a short activation (warming up the body and the spine), a sequence (often an Energy Block Release EBR Sequence), sometimes a second sequences or some Asanas (postures), and then a lovely 20 Deep Relaxation.
All of the movements are able to be modified to suit everyone's needs. Most of the movements are very gentle flowing and with the breath. Some movements require a little more strength and balance (but are also able to be fully modified to suit the needs of students in the class).
I sometimes align the contents of the class with the current astrological charts, which gives another dimension and a little extra meaning/ purpose to the class.
I often use visualizations and affirmations during each section of the class.
And we always have a nice, relaxed and fun time coming together.
After our class, students are welcome to stay for the 45 min Meditation session. This involves pranayam and meditation. You can attend either or both. Payment is by donation

I have experienced the profound benefits through meditating myself for 25 years and love to share my knowledge and understanding through regular meditation classes each week and if you are interested there is always an option to work in group meditation.

The depth of support within the group is from mixed ages and experience -some having practiced for years, others new to yoga and / or Dru. There is warmth of interactions here - we do have fun - not least from working around our limitations. Self-awareness and self-regard are foundations for health and vitality. It has helped me to overcome depression and become more confident and it has also been a major contributing factor in enabling me to completely change my job, my body and my relationships, my outlook and my life. Its a really powerful tool.

My typical Dru Yoga session consists of a short activation, usually to music, to get the circulation flowing and to get the body moving. This is followed by an Energy Block Release sequence. This is a series of beautiful flowing movements aimed at increasing the flow of energy around the body and releasing any tension from the muscles and joints. A session will normally also include a breathing exercise and a posture. Every session finishes with a guided relaxation, which really helps embed the benefits of the session.

Suitable for beginners or those with some experience. This is a gentle and traditional Dru class typically starting with Activations then an Energy Block Release sequence to release tension in the body. From there we focus in depth on a classical yoga posture (Asana) so that you understand both the benefits and how to do it safely. Students have said that while they may have done the posture before at other classes, they have never really understood how to do it or why they do it in that way before. To finish we would typically do a breathing exercise (Pranayama) or meditation before relaxation.
Wednesday evenings 7 pm to 8 15 pm at Jamyang Buddhist Centre, Clyde Works, Ingram Road. Holbeck. Leeds LS11 9RQ £7 drop in or £36 for 6 sessions taken over a 2-month period. You can pay by either cash or card. There are plenty mats, cushions, blankets and straps at the centre, so you don't need to bring your own unless you want to. Do bring a bottle for water, you can fill it at the centre if you like. It’s good to keep hydrated as you go along.
Jamyang is a FPMT Buddhist Centre following the Mahayana Tradition. I am a Buddhist practitioner myself and both study & practice at the centre as well as being one of the trustees. You certainly don't need to be Buddhist to come along. Yoga is one of several secular activities that the centre holds for the community.

I am teaching a new set of online (Zoom) Dru Yoga classes to see us through the Christmas period starting w/c 1st November 2021. All of these classes are especially suited to beginners and those who have some knowledge of yoga, may have previously tried it, are not sure about it, and would like to try again and learn more.

Monday evenings 7.00-8.15pm (*8/11/21; 22/11/21 & 20/12/21) Focus & Clarity
This class will help you to improve and enhance your focus and move you towards a path of clarity with respect to your thoughts, emotions and direction in life, especially helpful at this incredibly busy and often fraught time of year.

Wednesday mornings 10.00-11.15am (* No class 10/11/21 & 24/11/21) - Dru Yoga Inner Strength & Resilience
This class works to create a stronger & more resilient sense of inner knowing and security within. Especially welcomed in these uncertain and rocky times where it is difficult to know and hear your own voice amongst the clatter and noise of the world.

Friday evenings 7.15 - 8.30pm (Starting 19/11, 26/11, 3/12, 10/12, until 17/12/2021) - Relax and release the week
These are deeply relaxing (pyjama wearing if you want!) classes to release the whole week, where you can drift off to sleep at the end, stay where you are for however long you need, and wake up when you are ready, refreshed and set for your weekend!

In all these classes I will take you through a series of movements and breathing techniques that are designed to stretch, strengthen and revive the body, mind and soul, and finish with a deep relaxation to settle and refresh. My classes are friendly and fun, and you don't have to be super bendy, flexible or experienced to practise this form of yoga. One of the things I love the most about Dru is how accessible it is. So, whatever your fitness ability, degree of flexibility (or not), age, or body shape, Dru yoga works with every body. Come along and give it a try!
