Frequently Asked Questions about the DPN

Frequently Asked Questions

BEFORE YOU JOIN

  1. What is the DPN?

The Dru Professional Network is the professional body for Dru Yoga teachers. It’s there to support professional Dru Yoga teachers and provide resources of use to your yoga teaching. It replaced the previous Dru Professional Register at the end of November 2011, and offers an enhanced range of services. It is the only professional body specifically for Dru yoga teachers.

  2. Am I eligible to join?

If you are on the Dru yoga teacher training course and have passed your interim assessment OR if you have passed the final assessment you are eligible to join. Established teachers are eligible if their CPD is up to date and they hold current insurance. More details are at ‘Join The DPN’ on the DPN website www.drunetwork.com.

  3. How do I join?

All the forms you need are available for downloading from www.drunetwork.com  at ‘Join The DPN’. You need to either join online and send in your CPD record (for those who qualified over 12 months ago) or complete the interactive application form, sign that you agree to the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and either post to us with a cheque at the address on the form or email to us at info@drunetwork.com with your payment details. We no longer can accept over the phone applications as we need your signature for acceptance on the Code of Conduct

  4. I’m starting a class soon and need to get insurance, how long does it take to process my membership application?

Generally we can turn around your application within 2 weeks of receiving it. We will then send you an email with membership details.  Online joining is almost immediate, and you can get your insurance with Balens at specially negotiated rates via the link in the members only section of www.drunetwork.com

  5. How much is DPN membership ?

For a student teacher the annual fee is £45. For a full member it is £65.   We are now running a "rolling year" membership.   Your renewal date will be the date you first become a Fully Qualified Member.  Please note your insurance is extra and arranged separately.

  6. Where can I get professional insurance?

Dru has negotiated preferential rates for professional insurance with Balens. The cover includes a wide range of services and you may add other therapies mostly at no additional cost. Balens can be contacted on 01684 893 006. Please note you must deal directly with Balens to arrange your insurance.  We have a link in the members only section of our website.

  7. What’s the CDP requirement?

For the first 12 months after your final training day, there is no Continuing Professional Development needed. Then, the CPD requirement is 12 points per year. 1 hour of a course = 1 point but 1 hour of one to one mentoring = 3 points.  A minimum of 6 points of professional (i.e. skills enhancing) workshops or courses and the remainder being of general contact hours with Dru. For more information, see the ‘About CPD’ page on www.drunetwork.com.

  8. What’s the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct?

Like most professional bodies, the DPN has a Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct that acts as a guide for teachers in their interactions with clients and outlines DPN policies you need to know about. It covers issues such as your responsibilities as a teacher, advertising and website guidelines, professional standards and more.

You can download a copy of the Registered Teacher's Code from this link.
Download the Student Code of Ethics here

It’s important to read it before you sign the application form (or tick that you agree online) at the time of joining the DPN. If you have any queries about the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, please contact the DPN Member Services team.

  9. What is the Find A Teacher service?

The Find A Teacher service is a complimentary service for DPN members. Here’s how it works: when you fill in your DPN application form, you give us the contact details you are happy for us to provide to people inquiring about Dru yoga teachers in their area.

You can choose to provide the postcode where you teach, a telephone contact, an email address and your website address as well as a space where you can describe what you offer in more detail - this is called "Locale and info" and you need to update that yourself online.  We will only provide those details we have your permission to give out, in order to protect your privacy.

For student teachers, a telephone referrals service is available. Full members are eligible to have a listing in the Find A Teacher feature on the www.druyoga.com and www.drunetwork.com websites. If your details change, you can update them yourself when you log in to your account by clicking "EDIT" and choosing Find A Teacher.  If this is difficult for you to do, please let us know and we can update your details for you.  Please help us keep the information current so that we provide a good service to your potential clients.

  10. What are the benefits of the DPN, why would I join?

We now run a rolling year membership.  About a month before your membership is due to end we will write to you letting you know that your membership is due for renewal and whether or not it is on an Auto Renew.  About a month after your membership has expired will will send out reminder emails.

The DPN office will let you know the amount of refund due to you (if any) so you can pay a reduced amount for the fully qualified teacher membership should you wish to renew via the "paper form" method.
