Neem mala (108 beads)
These auspicious mala beads from Vrindavan, India, have been carved from the wood of the neem tree. Neem, an intrinsic part of Indian culture, is considered to be extremely pure and is said to cure 40 illnesses.
A full mala has 108 counting beads plus one meru bead. The meru (mountain) bead provides a starting and ending point for counting the repetitions of the mantra.
The word mala comes from the Sanskrit meaning garland. Malas are used as meditation beads or prayer beads and used to keep the mind focused and clear from thoughts.
