If you teach or practise yoga\, Sanskrit is likely already part of your week – in posture names\, mantras\, chants\, or philosophical terms. \nYet for many practitioners and teachers\, it remains something learned in fragments rather than understood clearly. This live online workshop offers a practical and approachable starting point for anyone wanting to build a stronger connection with the language of yoga. \nHaving been taught successfully in Australia\, this workshop is now being offered in the UK for the first time. \nWho this workshop is for\nThis workshop is ideal for: \n\nYoga teachers wanting more confidence with pronunciation and terminology\nStudents interested in the roots and meaning behind common yoga terms\nComplete beginners who would like an accessible introduction to Sanskrit\n\nNo previous language study or Sanskrit knowledge is needed. \nWhat you’ll gain\nAcross two live sessions\, you’ll begin building a practical foundation in Sanskrit that will immediately support your yoga practice and teaching. You’ll gain: \n\nMore confidence in pronouncing Sanskrit words and chants\nA clearer understanding of commonly used yoga terms\nA practical introduction to the Devanagari script\nA stronger understanding of the meaning behind the words you already use in class and practice\n\nThis is not an academic language course or an advanced Sanskrit training. The emphasis is on clarity\, accessibility and practical application. \nWorkshop Content Topics will include:\n\nThe history and significance of Sanskrit within yoga traditions\nAn introduction to the Devanagari script and alphabet\nKey pronunciation principles\nCommon yoga terms – their roots\, meaning and pronunciation\nGuided Devanagari writing practice\nSuggested resources and next steps for continued learning\nParticipants will also receive a PDF resource before the workshop to support their learning.\n\nDates\nSunday 21 and Monday 22 June\, 9:30 am – 12 pm BST \nAbout the teacher\nThe workshop is led by Julian Singh\, a certified yoga teacher and author of Sanskrit in Modern Yoga. Julian has completed two years of formal Sanskrit study and continues to deepen his own learning. \nHe describes himself as an enthusiastic student of Sanskrit and is passionate about making the language approachable\, practical and relevant for modern yoga practitioners.
