Filmed live at our Dru Centre join Christiane as she shares the asanas that train and awaken the spine.

The spine is a living structure that supports our whole nervous system. Therefore it's absolutely crucial to keep it healthy and moving in an optimum way. This affects the well being of your whole body as well as your energy levels.

From a yogic point of view, all the main energy centres (chakras) are seated along the spine. These centres reflect different areas of our consciousness, thus the condition of our spine can have a huge influence on the way we feel and think. This affects how we relate to life!

So it's worth spending a little time to nurture our "backbone" which holds us upright and supports us in everything we do.

Activations & body preps:

  • Arm fig of 8 - shoulder rotations
  • Shaking out
  • Hip rotations
  • F/B bend 
  • Balancing windmill
  • Heaven earth stretch
  • Squat 
  • Movements to open hips and lower back 

Postures:

  • Lying twist
  • Core strengthening
  • Bridge
  • Sitting spinal twist
  • Gate posture
  • Savasana

This is fabulous. So much variety in the activation and so much explanation of the benefits of what we are doing physically and in relation to our chakras throughout. My class will love the variety in activations but also the familiarity of the postures and focussed concentration on the process for each as well as the benefits of modifications as we go in stages listening to their bodies where needed.

Really enjoyed. I still need a lot more core strength, slowly getting there. Not sure I have spare capacity to explore just yet. One day it will happen I'm sure.
