This posture is fantastic as a restorative, as a way of maintaining flexibility and strength as well as helping you to cleanse the Vishuddhi (throat chakra). Wow! It's a great pose to explore on a regular basis!
This short session is a great way for you to enjoy a bit of well deserved "me time". Taken from the Healthy Back Programme, this pose will help you to maintain flexibility in the spine and back as well as gently toning the glutes, abdomen and quads.
Setubhandasana (the bridge pose) helps us bring awareness to the spine with a very controlled segmental lift and roll back down to the floor. It's well known throughout all styles of yoga for it's many restorative and therapeutic benefits. In this class we move gently and with awareness up into the posture over several breaths.
When we combine breath awareness with the movement we can very consciously activate the parasympathetic nervous system (our relaxation response). This then leads perfectly into the diaphragmatic breathing part of the class.
Within these short 7 minutes you'll be rested, awarefull and ready to get on with your day! Use this video in combination with other postures or a relaxation to complete a restorative and nurturing practice.
