Relax & Unwind Series: Class 2

 -
Duration:
60 mins

The second in a three part series with Annie and Coby to help you relax and unwind.

Stress means that your 'fight-or-flight' stress mode is switched on for too-long a period. This session will soothe the nervous system and access the relaxation response by focusing on releasing and relaxing the kidney organs and the adrenal glands.

Energy Block Release 3 will begin to slow your system down by opening the breathing system. This is followed by the 'Fearless Flight' sequence that works on the kidneys; organs that are responsible for supporting your energy levels.

The Sitting Twist (Ardha Matsyendrasana) will work the spine to help energise and the Forward Bend (Padahastasana) will soothe the nervous system and expand and release tension in the adrenal glands.

The dynamic relaxation will help you deeply relax.

Yoga class contents

Activation

Systematically loosen some of the key joints in your body: wrists, elbows, shoulders, ankles, knees and hips. Then move into some twists, dynamic arm swings, and wide stance breath of Arjuna to activate the thigh muscles and get blood pumping through your entire body.

EBR3

Use breath co-ordinated with movements to calm and relax mind and body. This is based on the principle that our nervous system has two main modes of operation: “fight-or-flight” (sympathetic nervous system) and relaxation (parasympathetic nervous system). This class helps bring you into the latter mode of functioning – phew!

Sitting twist

Give a boost to your digestive and liver health with the sitting twist. Stress can cause toxins to accumulate in our system, but as fortune has it, this posture helps us to repair the friendship with our liver and fast-track the detox process.

Body prep: hamstring stretch

Limber up your hamstrings to prepare for the posture to follow. The sitting forward bend will iron out tension from your hamstrings and lower back whilst massaging and healing any wear-and-tear in your adrenal glands. A calming posture.

Relaxation

When you’re relaxed and at ease, the moments in your life can become a real joy to experience. Rest and allow Annie to guide you into this state where your mind, body and heart are all at ease.
