Yoga for sleep
This session is designed to help you prepare for rest and sleep by releasing tension from the body. It is a nourishing and grounding class that brings you back down to earth.
Explore how to use movements to ease tired or tense muscles and joints. When we’re wired but tired it is helpful to feel into the body and see what it needs to do to release, rather than working, very specifically with postures in the usual way.
In this soothing session, there is no need to think too much, rather there is time for you to internalise your awareness and feel how the body needs to move.
This class includes:
- The supported downward dog and the cat pose to release and ease the lower spine. We work into the upper back with the weaving cat and extended child and then complete the posture section of the class with the sitting forward bend, a lying twist and a gentle bridge.
- Learn about the areas of the spine which promote the relaxation response and how to work with them.
- The class completes with yoni mudra and Brahmari breath - ancient techniques designed to soothe the senses and calm the mind.
- Finally a relaxation with legs raised to revitalise the whole system. Have cushions and a blanket to hand!
