Practical Sanskrit for Yoga Teachers – a live introductory workshop

Feel more confident teaching, chanting and understanding the language of yoga through this clear and practical introduction to Sanskrit for yoga teachers.

Sanskrit for yoga teachers

Discover the language at the heart of yoga. If you teach or practise yoga, Sanskrit is likely already part of your week – in posture names, mantras, chants, or philosophical terms.

Yet for many practitioners and teachers, it remains something learned in fragments rather than understood clearly. This live online workshop offers a practical and approachable starting point for anyone wanting to build a stronger connection with the language of yoga.

Having been taught successfully in Australia, this workshop is now being offered in the UK for the first time.

Who this workshop is for

This workshop is ideal for:

  • Yoga teachers wanting more confidence with pronunciation and terminology
  • Students interested in the roots and meaning behind common yoga terms
  • Complete beginners who would like an accessible introduction to Sanskrit

No previous language study or Sanskrit knowledge is needed.

What you’ll gain

Across two live sessions, you’ll begin building a practical foundation in Sanskrit that will immediately support your yoga practice and teaching. You’ll gain:

  • More confidence in pronouncing Sanskrit words and chants
  • A clearer understanding of commonly used yoga terms
  • A practical introduction to the Devanagari script
  • A stronger understanding of the meaning behind the words you already use in class and practice

This is not an academic language course or an advanced Sanskrit training. The emphasis is on clarity, accessibility and practical application.

Workshop Content Topics will include:

  • The history and significance of Sanskrit within yoga traditions
  • An introduction to the Devanagari script and alphabet
  • Key pronunciation principles
  • Common yoga terms – their roots, meaning and pronunciation
  • Guided Devanagari writing practice
  • Suggested resources and next steps for continued learning
  • Participants will also receive a PDF resource before the workshop to support their learning.
