Workshop: The Spirituality of the Menopause
This menopause Ayurveda workshop with Shona Sutherland and Janey Fitzgerald explores the spiritual and energetic dimensions of this life stage through an Ayurvedic lens. You'll discover how the three doshas — Kapha, Pitta and Vata — shape the menopausal transition, and explore mantras, mudras and practical tools to help bring balance and ease.

This Menopause Ayurveda workshop invites you to see the menopausal transition not as something to be managed or overcome, but as a meaningful passage — one that Ayurveda has long recognised as a time of deepening wisdom and inner presence.
In Ayurveda, life unfolds through three broad phases, each shaped by a dominant dosha (energetic quality). The Kapha phase, from birth to around 18 years, is a time of growth and formation. The Pitta phase, spanning roughly from 18 to 45 years, brings activity, responsibility and outward focus. Menopause marks the movement into the Vata phase — associated with the elements of air and ether — a time that Ayurveda describes as the “time of the wise woman.”
Rather than viewing this shift as a loss, the menopause Ayurveda workshop explores how the Vata years can support a quieter, more contemplative way of being — one that draws on everything accumulated in earlier life.
In this workshop, you may explore:
- How the three doshas — Kapha, Pitta and Vata — present themselves during the menopause, and what that means for your experience
- Healing mantras (sacred sound) and mudras (hand gestures) chosen for their support during this particular life phase
- Relevant sacred scriptures from the yogic tradition
- Practical approaches for working with dosha imbalances during the menopausal transition
- Ways of connecting with your inner wisdom during a time of significant change
This workshop may suit you if you are curious about Ayurveda’s view of women’s health, if you are approaching or moving through the menopause, or if you simply wish to understand this phase of life in a broader, more wholesome way.
