Find Your Voice in this Sound Healing Masterclass with Petra Opsteeg
There’s something most people don’t know about their voice.
A baby can laugh and cry all day long without ever tiring. An adult, trying to do the same, would be exhausted within the hour. The difference isn’t physical capacity — it’s restriction. Somewhere along the way, most of us learned to hold back, speak less, sing quietly if at all. We use perhaps a fraction of the vocal range we were born with.
This masterclass, led by one of Dru’s Senior Sound Tutors, Petra Opsteeg, begins the process of returning to the full instrument you already are.
About this session
Petra has spent twenty years teaching the healing power of sound on three continents — and what she brings to this masterclass isn’t theory. It’s a direct experience of what becomes possible when you stop restricting your voice and start working with it, layer by layer, from the physical body all the way to soul force itself.
The session is structured through the five koshas — the five layers of the self in the yogic tradition — not as a lecture, but as a living journey through nada yoga, the yoga of sound. Petra will lead you through a sequence of practices that take you deeper into sound, and into yourself, one layer at a time.
As Saint Augustine wrote: the one who sings prays twice. Petra has spent her life finding out why that’s true — and this hour is her invitation for you to experience the remarkable voice you already have within.
What we’ll explore together
During this masterclass, Petra and Angie will guide you through:
- Yoga and breath practices to release the physical holding in the face, neck, jaw, and throat — the places where many of us have learned not to make too much noise — working with the throat chakra and the vishuddhi, the energetic centre of authentic expression
- Breath and pranayama work to help you discover the real depth and volume of your breath — most of us are far more habitual in our breathing than we realise, and this is often where finding your voice actually begins
- An exploration of the manomaya kosha — the layer of mind and expression — gently expanding the range of sound you feel comfortable making, with Petra’s characteristic warmth and drama to help everyone along
- A deepening into vijnanamaya kosha — expression with real depth and intention — and why singing, done with this quality of attention, opens something in the soul that little else can reach
- A Sound Body relaxation: directing sound slowly up through the body to the crown, and allowing it to pour back down like a shower of sound and light — landing you in a stillness that can be even deeper than ordinary meditation
- Some brilliant kirtan to put it all together!
These practices are drawn from Petra’s twenty years of teaching sound healing on three continents, and from Dru’s long tradition of working with prana, mantra, and the subtle body.
What you’ll take away
By the end of this masterclass, you’ll have:
- A direct experience of why the voice is one of the most accessible — and most overlooked — tools for nervous system regulation and inner calm
- Ways to release the physical and pranic holding that limits your natural vocal expression — in the throat, the breath, and the body as a whole
- A living map of how breath, sound, and intention connect — one you’ve felt in your own body, not just read about
- A sound-based relaxation practice you can return to on your own
- A sense of what it actually feels like to speak — or sing — and sound like yourself.
Who this masterclass is for
This session is well suited to:
- Yoga practitioners and teachers who want to explore the dimension of sound within their practice
- Anyone drawn to mantra, kirtan, or sacred sound who would like to understand the deeper framework behind it
- People who feel — however vaguely — that they haven’t yet found their voice — or that the voice others hear isn’t quite the one they know is there
- Anyone curious about sound healing or nada yoga but not sure where to begin
No singing experience is required. No previous knowledge of the koshas is needed. What helps is genuine curiosity and a willingness to make a little noise.
