This world peace meditation online offers a simple, sincere invitation: to sit in stillness together, and to direct that stillness outward.
The session was created in response to the events in the Middle East — a situation many people find deeply distressing, and one that can leave us feeling that there is little we can do. The teachings of yoga offer a gentle reminder that this is not entirely so. When we sit in meditation and dedicate our attention to peace, we are doing something. We are adding something to the world rather than taking from it.
Jane Goodall observed that every one of us, every single day, has an impact on the world around us — and that we each have a choice about what kind of impact that will be. This world peace meditation online is one way of making that choice consciously.
The session is led by Andrew Wells, Joint CEO of Dru UK, who has worked as a peace practitioner for decades — including with the Quakers and the United Nations in New York, and delivering trauma-sensitive yoga programmes in conflict-affected regions including the North Caucasus, the Balkans, South Sudan and Northern Ireland. Few teachers are as well placed to hold this kind of space.
The session includes:
- A guided Dru Meditation on peace and light — working to quieten the body and mind and find a nourishing balance between relaxation and alertness
- A mantra practice to cultivate and focus the light within
- A collective dedication of that calm and light toward healing in the world’s conflict zones
The session is free to attend. Donations are warmly welcomed and will go to the Red Cross Red Crescent’s Israel and Occupied Palestinian Territory Appeal.
Dru Professional Network members may accrue 1 CPD hour for attending.
You’re welcome to come as you are, and to give what you can.
